Lisbellaw United 0 vs 2 Strule United

We suffered a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to bottom of the league Strule United on Saturday. Strule started well and looked hungrier from the word go, picking up second balls all over the pitch and forcing several corners. We did have two chances to take the lead though, a brilliant Stuart Cochrane header left the keeper rooted to the spot but the ball landed right on top of the crossbar. Moments later Ryan O’Keefe lifted to ball over the keeper with Paul McGrath waiting to a tap in, a Strule defender got back to make a vital clearance. At the other end, Sam McDonald made a great save to keep the game scoreless. However, Strule did take the lead following a period of sustained pressure. The ball deflected off Cochrane from a Kyle McCrory strike giving McDonald no chance. We very nearly equalised when a Sam Lindsay header hit the underside of the bar and we were unable to convert the rebound.
In the second half we looked much sharper, and excellent pass from Aaron Lindsay released Paul Elliott down the right who held the ball before feeding it back to Lindsay who hit a thunderous effort from just inside the box, but unfortunately was straight at the Strule keeper. Sam Lindsay then had a great chance at the back post from an O’Keefe cross but was uncharacteristically off target. Our fate was sealed when a Strule corner was inadvertently turned in to our net by William Armstrong, the ball rebounding off his leg and through McDonalds legs to make it 2-0. We nearly hit back immediately, Kelvin McElroy got to the bye line and put in a great cross, but McGrath seen his header once again hit the crossbar and Strule were able to clear. To sum up our day, we had Keelan Flanagan sent off with only a few minutes remaining for a late tackle.
