Lisbellaw United 5-4 Killen Rangers

A crazy game on Saturday eventually secured us three more points as we came out on top with a 5-4 win against Killen Rangers at Drumad. The game started with a fairly high tempo but neither side carved out any meaningful openings. Sam Lindsay firing wide after near build up, and a Killen striker unable to make any decent contact when well placed was the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock.
We did however go in front when the impressive Kelvin McElroy volleyed home a perfectly floated free kick from Andy Reilly after about 15 minutes. Killen did equalise shortly after when a surging run and shot from left back David Bogle was only parried by keeper Sam McDonald and Gareth Milligan was on hand to slot home. We restored our lead when Robbie Little blasted home from inside the area, but Killen again equalised this tine from the penalty spot after a foul by Jamie Coalter, Milligan again the scorer. We did manage to go in 3-2 up at the break as Chris Beacom headed home another Reilly delivery just before half time.
In the second half, Killen hit back almost immediately when Milligan completed his hat trick, and he put Killen ahead for the first time a few minutes later when he prodded home from close range. We hit back straight from the kick off as Reilly switched the ball to Aaron Lindsay and his cross field pass was picked up by Sam Lindsay who hit a thunderous effort from 25 yards which flew in to the back of the net via the post, a brilliant strike.
With the game locked at 4-4 both sides had chances to win it. With time running out we were denied a stonewall penalty when Little got to the ball just ahead of the Killen keeper and was subsequently taken down, but the Killen keeper picked up the lose ball and the referee waved play on. We weren’t to be denied when, in the last minute, Sam Lindsay collected the ball on the edge of the area, beat his man and side footed the ball past the keeper to seal a valuable three points. It really was a game that could have went either way, and we thank Killen for a very hard fought but thoroughly entertaining match.
